There’s been a lot of talk about mindfulness over the last few years – and for good reason! Mindfulness and mindful meditation can help us in many areas of life, from embracing change to better managing stress.

Mindfulness on a very basic level is about being able to achieve focus on the here and now. It’s a really important part of being creative as you need to be able to focus to create something. A cake won’t just bake itself: you need to commit the time to weighing the ingredients and baking it. Getting distracted can result in a burned cake. Believe me, I know this from personal experience.

Mindful eating is one great way to introduce some mindfulness into life. Taking the time to really pay attention to what is going in your mouth will change the way you eat – and taste.

One of the best ways to introduce yourself to mindful eating is through chocolate. And this is not just because I’m a big lover of chocolate; good chocolate has hundreds of flavour compounds which makes it a really interesting (and worthwhile!) food to taste properly.

My latest podcast covers an introduction to mindful eating with a simple guided exercise. All you’ll need is a couple of squares of good chocolate (preferably dark chocolate that is at least 65% – 70% cocoa).
